Der Autor
Rudolf Kippenhahn, geboren 1926 in Bärringen (Tschechoslowakei), studierte Mathematik in Halle und Erlangen und promovierte 1951. Von 1965 bis 1975 war er Professor für Astronomie und Astrophysik an der Universität Göttingen, bis 1991 Direktor des Max-Planck-Instituts für Astrophysik in München und Garching. Seit 1991 lebt er als Autor in Göttingen. Er schrieb zahlreiche populärwissenschaftliche Bücher.
